The Website Goldmine

Published on July 20, 2026

For years, websites have been built for two audiences.

Search engines.

And humans.

Today, there’s a third audience that many businesses haven’t even thought about.

AI.

Whether it’s ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity or Google’s AI experiences, more people are asking AI tools to recommend agencies, explain services and compare businesses before they ever visit Google.

That means your website isn’t just competing for rankings anymore.

It’s competing to become a trusted source that AI chooses to cite.

Search has changed faster than most businesses realise

A lot of marketing teams are still asking questions like:

“How do we rank higher on Google?”

That’s still important.

But a better question today is:

“If someone asked ChatGPT to recommend a company like ours, would it know enough about us to mention us?”

That shift changes how we should think about our websites.

Instead of simply targeting keywords, we need to become the clearest, most trustworthy source on our own area of expertise.

AI doesn’t like vague websites

One of the biggest problems I see with agency websites is that they try to sound clever instead of being clear.

“We create digital experiences.”

“We transform your online presence.”

“Innovative solutions for modern businesses.”

It sounds nice.

But what does it actually mean?

AI systems work best when information is explicit.

Instead of hiding behind marketing jargon, explain exactly:

  • Who you help.
  • What services you provide.
  • What industries you specialise in.
  • What problems you solve.
  • What results you’ve achieved.

The clearer you are, the easier it becomes for both people and AI to understand your business.

Your case studies matter more than ever

AI can generate generic advice.

It can’t generate your experience.

That’s becoming one of the biggest competitive advantages agencies have.

Instead of publishing another generic article about website design trends, publish:

  • How you solved a difficult client problem.
  • Before-and-after conversion improvements.
  • Lessons from rebuilding a legacy website.
  • Mistakes you see businesses making every week.
  • What happened after a redesign launched.

Those are the stories AI can’t invent.

They’re also the stories potential clients actually care about.

Internal linking has become even more valuable

One of the easiest improvements you can make is connecting your content properly.

Imagine somebody lands on a blog about improving lead generation.

That article should naturally point them towards:

  • Your CRO service.
  • Website design.
  • Website development.
  • Relevant case studies.
  • A contact page.

Every page should support the next step in the journey.

You’re not just helping users.

You’re helping AI understand how your expertise is organised.

Think in topics, not blogs

Instead of writing random articles whenever inspiration strikes, build content clusters.

For example, if you’re known for WordPress and conversion optimisation:

Website Strategy

Conversion Optimisation

  • Landing pages
  • Forms
  • User journeys
  • Calls to action
  • Heatmaps

AI Search

  • AI visibility
  • Answer Engine Optimisation
  • Schema
  • Structured content
  • AI-ready websites

When those pages all link together, they build authority around an entire subject instead of relying on a single blog to rank.

Your homepage has one job

Within five seconds someone should know:

  • Who you help.
  • What you do.
  • Why you’re different.
  • What they should do next.

If your homepage doesn’t answer those questions immediately, no amount of SEO will compensate for it.

Traffic without clarity is just wasted opportunity.

The biggest mistake agencies will make over the next year

Many agencies will treat AI optimisation like they treated SEO fifteen years ago.

They’ll chase hacks.

Prompt tricks.

Magic templates.

The agencies that actually win will focus on something much simpler.

Publishing genuinely useful content based on real experience.

Clear messaging.

Strong case studies.

Logical website structure.

Helpful resources.

Those things have always been good for SEO.

Now they’re becoming just as important for AI visibility too.

Final thoughts

Your website is no longer just your digital brochure.

It’s becoming your most important source of truth.

Every page you publish teaches search engines, AI tools and potential customers who you are and whether they should trust you.

So the next time you’re updating your website, don’t ask:

“Will Google like this?”

Ask:

“Would an AI confidently recommend my business after reading this page?”

Because that’s the question more businesses are about to start asking.
